Mama Kits

In Uganda, expectant mothers must supply the necessary materials for delivery when they arrive at a hospital or clinic, or they risk being turned away. Delivery in these facilities is safer, cleaner, and greatly reduces the chances of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. GlobeMed funds these safe delivery kits, while HAU identifies the most vulnerable mothers and ensures that they receive a kit.

Scholarship Program

Initially funded by a grant from the local Rotary Club, the scholarship program allows HIV infected and affected youth to attend vocational schools. Stigmatization and lack of resources can limit career options for these youths. The goal of this project is to enable HAU clients to expand their options for income and allow them to develop marketable skills.

Youth Development Program

This summer HAU held its first Peer Support Program since last December. The program allows youths to come together in a safe space where they can discuss HIV and recieve information about maintaining healthy lifestyles in a stigma free environment. GlobeMed funding will be used to allow this program to run every other month over the coming year.

HIV Testing

HIV testing events allow community members to receive access to free HIV testing. Each person tested also receives a counseling session during which they are provided with information that will either help them to maintain their HIV negative status or refer them to help if they are tested HIV postive.

Past Projects

Goat Lending

Goats are provided to families with HIV positive children in Northern Uganda,

providing them with a source of food as well as income. Extra milk can be sold for a profit, and families can also sell goats as they reproduce.

Seed Lending

Seeds are lent to members of two HIV postive support groups so that they can grow their own crops.  In the past GROW teams have distributed agwede bean, tomatoe, and onion seeds to families.
