GlobalhealthU

GlobalhealthU is a GlobeMed designed curriculum that enables students to develop a critical understanding of issues in global health and apply this knowledge to their work with communities around the world. In addition to the work they do with UNC students, ghU is currently in the process of piloting programs that teach local high school students about global health.

Goals:

  • Educate students about global health issues

  • Promote critical thinking about global health issues

  • Empower students to work effectively with their partners by promoting a deeper understanding of global health topics

  • Unite the GlobeMed network in a comprehensive curriculum by encouraging idea sharing and discussion

  • Inspire students to be powerful advocates and leaders for global health equity

Campaigns

Campaigns works throughout the year to plan and publicize fundraising events. All of the money raised at these events goes directly to our partner in order to support their projects.  Events range from simple fundraisers such as bake sales and selling bags and beads from Uganda to some of our bigger signature events which include Red Tie Affiar and Triangle Dance Festival for AIDS.  Funds are also raised through working at UNC basketball games.  This year the chapter hopes to continue with our staple events and fundraisers and to in addition look for new sources of funding.  New opportunities will ideally include work at UNC football games and a movie night at Chapel Hill's Varsity Theatre.

Individual Giving

Individual giving works to secure donations that will also support projects at our partner organization.  Each year our chapter holds a letter writing campaign during the holiday season in which members write to family and friends asking for donations.  Individual giving also searches and applies for funding in the form of grants.

Community Building

Community building works primarily to strengthen bonds between chapter members by planning chapter events including group dinners, retreats, movie mights, and other fun activities.  In addition, community building organizaes interchapter events that allow for idea exhange and networking between chapters.  Lastly, community building also works to organize local service projects.  GlobeMed recognizes that health inequities exist at home as well as abroad and therefore places importance on participating locally in addressing these issues.
